IAP Pune with Colors Innovative Academy celebrates Wold Obesity Day and Adolescent Healthcare Week on 4th March 2022. We have arranged running & quiz competition for students. More than 30 students participated in this program. Programme started with warm welcoming of all doctors and SNEH CEO by school teachers.
Dr. Bayna Panchal explained in brief about obesity awareness and adolescent healthcare and a small talk on obesity, causes and importance of healthy diet and daily exercises.
It was indeed great to see enthusiastic children, who were ready for running race . The main attraction of the programme was Dr. Swapnali Dhoka mam talk on adolescent boys and girls. It was a wonderful, interactive session with children.
Dr. Pramila and Dr. Deepa summarised our entire programme and gave vote of thanks...
And lastly prizes were distributed amongst children.
Happy ending of the programme with happy faces of children.
On the occasion of World Obesity Day on 4th March, 2022, obesity awareness week (4th-12th March 2022) was organized by IAP Pune in association with Deennanath Mangeshkar Hospital by Dr. Supriya Gupte. Standees for obesity awareness were put up in the Pediatric OPD throughout the week. The quick BMI screening tool - standee helped parents assess if their child was overweight or obese . Information leaflets regarding issues of childhood obesity and prevention tips and were distributed to parents visiting the OPD. The week celebrations helped create awareness regarding the obesity pandemic in children post Covid.
On occasion of Wold obesity day, IAP Pune organised obesity awareness week (4th-12th March 2022) at Global Talent School. More than 150 students was joined it. A small walkthon was done around the school with IAP banner and placards in hands for spreading messages. We distributed healthy snacks like Chikki to all students, teachers and staff members.
IAP Pune is organising various activities and programs during Obesity Awareness Week. We organised National Webinar on Pediatric Obesity Updates on 3rd March 2022 and webinar on Parental questions regarding obesity on 5th March 2022 at dIAP Platform.
IAP Pune and D Y Patil medical college organised inaugural function for Ped Obesity activities on 7th March at DY Patil Medical College, Pimpri. Program inaugurated by Dr Sharad Agarkhedkar, HOD- DY Patil medical college and Dr Jagdish Dhekne sir.

We celebrated the 'World Obesity awareness day ' on 5th March at 'Chaitanya Bag, Sinhagad Road. Children were given placards carrying information about healthy diet, exercises and what is junk food and how to avoid it.. There was a short march of children, follwed by a small health talk. In between the talk, children displayed the relevant placards and read the information on it to the audience.
On 6th March 2022 Pune IAP organised Heritage Walk at Mahadaji Shinde Chhatri. Great response from Pune IAP members, around 100 Pune IAPians and their families took part. Dr Abhang- Historian, Dr Ganesh Raut- Historian and Mr Askok Kadam Police Inspector gave history talk. Miss Renuka Gund, Age -10 yrs shown skills with Stick, our historic sport. Dr Sanjay Mankar support this program.
IAP Pune along with Maha IAP conducted Hepatitis A Virus & Diseases Module (Webinar) on 8th March 2022. The Webinar was a huge success with more than 200 viewers from Pune and across India who gave fantastic feedback for all the lectures. The topic covered were- changing hepatitis -epidemiology in India , it's diagnosis, treatment, complications and it's prevention. Hepatitis A vaccination and it's current recomandations. The sessions were very well conducted by facilities who included Dr A Yashowanth Rao, Dr Gv Basavaraja, Dr Rimjhim Shrivastava, Dr Sachin K Patil, Dr Raj Kumar Gupta, Dr P Anil Raut, & Dr Sachin K Patil. All and all a great learning experience for all !
Third session of PG Clinic case discussion was organised on 10th March 2022. Dr Ajit Bhandarge from Smt Kashibai Navale Medical College& Hospital, Pune presented the case. Faulties were Dr Aarti Kinikar & Dr Liza Bulsara. Conveners were Dr. Rajesh Kulkarni and Dr Sarita Kokane. Co conveners was Dr Tushar Deshpande. Topic was “12 yr old child with pollar hepspatolenomegaly”. It was excellent case presentation.
On the occasion of world Kidney Day, IAP Pune organised public awareness walk. March started from IAP office to Saras Baug. We displayed placard in public about kidney health also distributed pamphlets. In saras Baug we interacted with morning walk groups. Program was organised by IAP Pune with Ped Nephrologist viz Dr Jyoti Sharma, Dr Jyoti Singhal, Dr Nivedita Pandey. Snippets were posted in all what’s App group of IAP Pune.
IAP Pune presented CME on Sensitisation to Clinical Research on 13th March 2022 at Hotel Central Park, Pune. Around 30 delegates attended this CME. Topic covered were diagnostic testing accuracy, Interpreting results & drawing conclusions, how to critically appraise an article & research in pediatric clinical practice. The faculties were Dr Ashish Bavdekar, Dr. Saurabh Datta, Dr Sanat Phatak & Dr. Atul Mulay. The sessions were very well conducted by facilities. All the sessions were excellent. We received fantastic feedbacks from delegates.
IAP Pune celebrated world young arthritis (WORD) day with a webinar on Kawasaki disease on 16.03.2022. The webinar was moderated by Prof. Surjit Singh from PGIMER Chandigarh who has the largest experience with Kawasaki disease in India. The speaker for the day was Dr. Himanshi Chaudhary, who is a trained pediatric clinical immunologist and rheumatologist and is a former student of Prof. Surjit Singh. She presented an exhaustive review of the clinical presentation of Kawasaki disease and discussed in detail the incomplete and the atypical forms of KD. The session was followed by a panel discussion by 4 pediatric rheumatologists from across the country viz Dr Rakesh Kumar Pilania,Dr Anjani Gummadi, Dr Jitendra Oswal ,where they discussed the various challenges in diagnosis and management of KD.
On the occasion of World Down Syndrome Day, a panel discussion with medical experts was arranged as a collaborative effort by IAP, Pune Chapter and Project Dawn of Upleap Social welfare Foundation, Pune,on the 20th March at Sevasadan School auditorium. Project Dawn is the support group which works exclusively for the welfare of children with Down Syndrome and their families. Dr.Mudgerikar, Senior Paediatrician, Dr.Supriya Gupte,Paediatric Endocrinologist, Dr.Mangalesh Nimbalkar, Paediatric Cardiologist and Dr.Neha Deshpande, Senior Paediatric Neurologist participated in the session to enlighten the parents regarding the health issues and general well being of their wards with Down Syndrome. Lots of important questions were addressed by the very competent experts like for example- What to expect when the child has the diagnosis of Downs Syndrome? What initial checkups should the child undergo upon diagnosis or even the likelihood of diagnosis of Down syndrome? What ailments is a child with Downs Syndrome likely to have and what are the likely symptoms to watch out for? Eg. In case of thyroid disorders or seizures, heart defects , gastrointestinal issues etc. The session was very engaging with spontaneous interaction between doctors and parents. The doctors efficiently clarified all the doubts, queries and gave great inputs regarding early intervention when it comes to detection of any ailment and treatment for the same. They also emphasized the promptness with which the treatment should be given to the child and the possible risks if it is delayed. They also stressed the importance of good dietary habits from early on, ruling out any specific food allergies, good exercise or any possible physical activities to avoid obesity related issues in future, as well as catching disturbed sleep patterns, where other complications could be the underlying cause. The experts also gave inputs in great details about the necessity of regular follow up, following medication routines exactly as prescribed by doctors, not changing or stopping medication without consultation with the concerned experts like neurologist, cardiologist or endocrinologist etc. Parents had many queries and as part of such questions, the experts also guided parents on the precautions to be taken, tests to be conducted if they wanted to have another child. It is a topic that creates lots of anxiety in the minds of parents when they have a child with Downs Syndrome and want to have another child. The parents felt very reassured with all the expert advice and felt they could freely communicate with the doctors regarding their doubts. It was a very eye opening and enlightening sessionand we now feel that we can help the needy parents much more with IAP Pune.
Down syndrome day was celebrated on 21st March 2022 at KEM Hospital Pune. The program was jointly organised by IAP Pune, KEM Hospital TDH Center and Uprise foundation a parents support group. The program was spearheaded by IAP Pune President Dr Parag Gaikwad, Dr Sudha Chaudhary and Dr Chaitanya Datar. Educational talks for parents were given by Dr Chaitanya Datar (Geneticist) Dr Sharmila Patil (Developmental Pediatrician) Mrs Bharati Patil (Therapist) and Mrs Ujjwal Nene (Psychologist). The support group gave information about the various activities that they conduct. The program was attended by 90 people including Down syndrome children and parents. A free medical camp was also held where about 22 Down syndrome children were examined and parents were counselled about various issues they faced.
Fourth session of PG Clinic case discussion was organised on 23rd March 2022. Dr. Sabahat Ahmed from PGI, Yashvantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital, Pune presented the case. Faculties were Dr Anand Deshpande & Dr Pratichi Kadam. Conveners were Dr. Rajesh Kulkarni and Dr Sarita Kokane. Co conveners was Dr Sandhya Haribhakta. Topic was “3 month old boy with history of swelling around eyes and over the limbs since 1 week.” It was excellent case presentation.
IAP Pune with DY Medical College organised session on Mental Health and Stress Management on 24 th March 2022 for Students of Dr.D Y Patil Medical College , Pune, as celebration of International Adolescent Health Week. Faculties were Dr.Sharad Agarkedkar,Prof & Head, Department of Pediatrics, Dr.Shailaja Mane & Dr.Sampada Tambolkar.
On the occasion of International Adolescent Health Week, IAP Pune in association with Jehangir Hospital organised the informative workshop on 25th March 2022 at Jehangir Hospital. Targeted audience -Hospt employees, parents, adolescents and parents on social media An event was created to reach out to maximum no of people Around 100 -150 people benefited from this programme Many eminent doctors like Dr. Shilpa Dudhgaonkar, Dr Raj Ganacharya, Dr. Aarti Jindal, Dr Ankta Malpani, Dr Shradha, Dr Riha Shukla addressed various issues of Adolescents like body shaming, obesity and exam anxiety.
IAP Pune organised IAP Healthy Lifestyle Day on Sunday, 27th March 2022. Short talks delivered by Dr. Sanjay Natu on Diet ideas, Dr. Manoj Zalte on meditation overview, Dr Amit Deshmush on Exercise and cycling, Dr Kiran Mahankale on Gym Exercises. Speakers shared their experiences and some tips on Fitness, Diet and Meditation. Pune IAP members and their families took part in discussion with enthusiasm
On the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day, Pune IAP is organised a webinar on Tuberculosis in Children- updates 2022 on DigiShield platform on 29 March 2022. Faculty were Dr. Vijay Yewale, Dr Sushant Mane & Dr. Sanjay Mankar. The panel was moderated by Dr. Pramod Kulkarni. The session was very well conducted.
